My Philosophy

No One Diet is the “Right” Diet.

We all have different genetics, environments, lifestyles, mindsets and values. There are over 100 dietary theories out there, and there are tens of thousands of people who have both thrived and suffered following each of them. Not everyone is meant to be vegan. Not everyone wants to eat meat. The trick is tuning into your own body and figuring out its needs—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. No judgement.

There’s Room in This World for Both Mainstream and Alternative Philosophies.

For acute crises, Western medicine excels. Antibiotics and surgeries save lives every day. They saved my husband’s life many years ago when he contracted severe pneumonia as a complication of Influenza. For chronic conditions, such as autoimmune disease, functional and naturopathic medicine have put people into remission and given them back their quality of life  (organs intact), when mainstream medicine had only drugs and symptom management to offer. Good and bad experiences are to be found on both sides. If you close your mind completely to either approach, ask yourself why.

No One Cares About Your Health as Much as You Do.

(Okay, maybe your family and loved ones do, but everyone else is busy.) YOU are in charge of your own health. You are entitled to ask questions of your doctors without being dismissed, and it is your right to assemble a support team of wellness professionals and work with all of them. It’s also your job to educate yourself about options. I personally see an internist when I need acute care, a naturopath regularly for support and prevention, and an endocrinologist, once every year and a half, to check in (I have Hashimoto’s and thyroid nodules). I schedule mammograms and ultrasounds when needed, and I follow numerous functional health experts and research databases to make the best lifestyle and treatment decisions I can for myself given what I learn and what feels right for me. I believe that you have the right to do the same, if you wish.
